Choosing Child Care
Choosing the right child care provider for your child may be
one of the greatest challenges and most important decisions you make as a
parent. The small steps you take to ensure the provider you choose will meet the
needs of your child and your family will go a long way. The 5 steps below will
help you choose the right program for your child.
| Step 1: |
What are my options? Am I looking for a child care center, a church related center, a family child care home or a relative to care for my child? |
| Step 2: |
Consider your child's individual needs and the needs of your family. Does my child have special needs? Is location a factor? Are the teachers well trained in early care and education? |
| Step 3: |
Make phone calls to child care providers in your area. What was your impression of the person answering the phone? |
| Step 4: |
Make visits to each child care provider you have chosen and then follow up with an unannounced visit. Did you notice any differences in the center or home from the day you had an appointment?
|
| Step 5: |
Ask lots of questions and be observant! |
