Alabama Early Learning Guidelines
Putting It ALL Together for Alabama's Children
As a part of national education reform efforts No Child Left Behind Act(2001) and Good Start Grow Smart
Initiative(2002), every state is required to develop statewide guidelines to promote early learning. The goal
of the initiatives is to ensure that young children enter kindergarten with the skills needed to succeed at reading
and other early learning activities. Alabama's Early Learning Guidelines are presented as a guide of building
blocks that are important to support early care and education providers each child got future success.
Research on brain development emphasizes the need to focus on the early years, ages birth to five, to improve children's emotional,
social, language, physical, and cognitive development. The Alabama Early Learning Guidelines are developed
along a continuum that embraces all ages within that span, with appropriate consideration for unique characteristics
of development at each age.
GRCAM Early Childhood Directions will be conducting a series of training sessions fot childcare providers on the
Alabama Early Learning Guidelines. The course in its entirety consists of nine 2-hour sessions that are designed as
a guide for understanding child development and implementing best practices. Participants are required to attend
an orientation prior to participating inn the individual sessions and will be awarded training credit for each of
the sessions that are attended. Upon completion of all nine training sessions, caregivers will receive a training
credential issued by the State of Alabama.
